New This Year
"ROCKETS TO THE RESCUE"
Science - (Suggested grades 4 and above)

2014 National Science Experiment, Rockets to the Rescue, provides young scientists the opportunity to explore how aerospace engineering can be used to solve real world challenges-such as food distribution in emergency situations- to make a positive impact in our world.

Professional aerospace engineers frequently encounter design challenges when developing, manufacturing and testing aircraft and aerospace products.  They are given goals, requirements, and constraints –“ must use their creativity and imagination to best solve the problem.

As an aspiring aerospace engineer, your challenge is to come up with an aerospace design idea for solving this problem.

"4-H MAPS & APPS"
Science - (Suggested grades 4-6)

In this year's experiment, 4-H Maps & Apps, young people will become geospatial thinkers as they design and map their ideal park, use GIS mapping to solve community problems and contribute data about their community to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Park It! Be a Layer Player - Become a "community designer" and create a GIS map that represents your own unique vision of a park that makes your community a better place to live.
ProblemsLayers! Let's Talk Trash - Explore how GIS layers can be used to assess a messy situation by looking at data plotted out on a map and propose cost-effective solutions.

 "BUILD AN ECO-BOT"eco
Science
(Suggested grades 4-6)

The 2012 National Science Experiment, "4-H Eco-Bot Challenge" will explore robots and how technology can be used to preserve and protect the environment.

Students will assemble an Eco-Bot/Robot that will perform a simulated environmental cleanup project.

Exposing students of all ages to robotics through classroom and science projects can help them experience first-hand how robots and robotic technology works. It can help them discover new interests and career options, plus give them a taste of how this technology impacts and benefits human life today and in the future.

cent"MAKING CENTS OF IT"
Money Management
(Suggested grades 2 and 3)

Students learn about money by doing "hands-on" activities. They are able to understand the difference between needs and wants, what savings plans are and how the government prevents counterfeiting.

wind

 "POWER OF WIND"
Science
(Suggested grades 3-6)

Youth will design and build their own wind turbines, play with blade pitch variables, and map a potential wind farm site in their own state. Youth will navigate the discussions on energy consumption as they discover ways we can reduce our dependence on traditional energy sources.

gps"GPS SYSTEMS"
(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEMS)
Science, Social Studies
(Suggested grades 3 -10)

The Global Positioning System is a worldwide radio-navigation system formed from a constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations. Students will have hands-on experience with GPS systems learning to locate, navigate, track, and map.

"REAL COLORS"real
Health, Psychology
(Suggested grades 8 –“ Adult/Staff)

Using the Matrixx System, users can identify their own personality style and that of their peers, students, family members, or clients. In addition it provides a new understanding of learning and teaching styles. Learn how different personality styles can work effectively together. An Extension Educator will present the program.
Cost: Elementary & Junior High –“ $5.00; High School Students & Adult - $6.50

glitter

"GLITTER BUG"
Science, Food Safety
(Suggested grades 4 and 5)

Real germs don't glow and glitter. At least not so that we can see with the naked eye. So until we develop bionic eyes that can see germs without a microscope, we'll need to use some analogs to make believe we are dealing with germs themselves.

chick

"POULTRY EMBRYOLOGY"
Embryology
(Suggested grades K-5)

Students watch embryos develop while learning the different stages of development. Fertilized eggs, incubator, videotape, poster, (stages of development), and embryos at different stages of development preserved in solution, along with supporting materials are available.

bird

"BIRDS AND WORMS"
Science, Math, Physical Education
(Suggested grades K –“ 6)

Camouflage is an important survival strategy in the animal kingdom. In this activity, students will discover the value of protective coloration as they pretend to be birds in search of colored worms or bugs.
